EAST Facilitator/Computer Science 7-12
Description:
Grades 7-12
The EAST Facilitator/Teacher provides support to the instructional process by helping students learn subject matter and/or skills (problem-driven service learning) that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible men and women. The EAST facilitator/ teacher will lead students toward the fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, emotional and psychological growth.
The computer science instructor is responsible for implementing a computer science curriculum for grades 7-12, a computer applications curriculum for grades 7-12, and the instruction of an AP Computer Science course. These courses should all follow Arkansas Frameworks for Computer Science. All core curriculum instructors are required to integrate art into their curriculum. Teachers are required to perform 40 minutes of duty before and/or after school per week along with other duties as assigned. Knowledge of Google’s tools for learning, coding, network setup and troubleshooting, app design, and hardware engineering are a plus.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree or some form of post-secondary computer science education or equivalent;
previous teaching experiences within a public school preferred. A high level of technical
competence and proficiency with various programs and computer languages.
Computer Skills:
Ability to apply basic computer programs (spreadsheet, Microsoft word, Excel, PowerPoint, others) to enhance job performance and to assist and lead students to resources they can use to solve computer problems. (Others include Windows 2008 Server, SQL Server, Linux Server, Windows 7, Mac OS X, Adobe Creative Suite, MS Office Suite, JavaScript, PHP, HTML, CSS and CMS (preferably WordPress or JQuery, HAC/TAC.) PC Imaging, troubleshooting Server hardware, workstation hardware, and printer system skills are also required.
Responsibilities:
- Teach the elements of coding and app development
- Teach individual students/groups in grades 7-12 techniques for appropriately using a variety of computer programs and applications.
- Organizes classroom to offer a positive and student-centered learning environment
- Plan lessons in relation to class and individual students’ goals and interests
- Establish goals and learning objectives for various computer courses
- Provide individual and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students with varying abilities
- Evaluate student’s performance and growth in knowledge and ability, and prepare progress reports
- Maintain discipline, set class expectations with realistic rules of conduct
- Communicate with parents and school counselors on student progress; maintain assessment records for each student and prepares reports as required by school

- Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the school and/or in self-selected professional growth activities
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance

- Teachers must possess a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to the school
